EMTA Fee
« on: June 04, 2012, 09:24:28 PM »
Why is Mediacom now charging $5/month per EMTA? I bought a modem to avoid the $5 modem fee, and now I'm suddenly charged for the EMTA. I don't remember any mods mentioning an EMTA fee in the threads about the modem fee.

We began charging $5/month for the phone modem rental on the first of the month, and a notice should have been on your May account statement.  At this time we do not support third party phone modems, however we will begin selling a DOCSIS 3.0 wireless internet/phone modem.

If I'd known an EMTA fee was coming, I would have just switched my broadband and phone services to CenturyLink instead of buying a modem.

Your frustration is understandable and I wish there was a way around this but with the rising cost of new equipment for the company (docsis 3 modems ect) we had to implement this fee.

Right. I can understand why you'd charge new customers, but why start charging me for an EMTA that I've had for at least three years? My EMTA's cost was rolled into the monthly fee, so it should have been paid for by now.

Point well taken.  I believe we will be offering these EMTA's for sale at the local offices in the near future.

But why would I buy an EMTA when, through my monthly service fee, I've already paid back Mediacom for providing it?

It was not a lease to own program. So while I understand your point it was not provided to you on that basis.

I know that it wasn't lease to own. But that doesn't change the fact that Mediacom's cost was priced into the service fee and that it's recouped that cost.

This fee shouldn't apply to existing customers. Let the newcomers pay extra for a change.

Does Mediacom have any phone plans besides the $49.95 unlimited LD one (discounted to $29.95 with triple play)?

If I drop phone, would my TV and broadband rates increase?

Not that I know of. I have the triple play, but my last promo ended, and I'm not eligible for a new one until July 15.

I'd like to know whether there are any promos that I'll be eligible for after July 15 that would reduce my overall bill. I'm not interested in more channels because I don't watch most of the ones that I already have. Thanks.

Okay. Any idea how soon? I'm about to order Vonage, but I'm willing to wait if the new plans will be public in the next few weeks.
